NATIONAL PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
September was designated National Prostate Health month by the American Foundation for Urological Disease in 1999. In 2001, Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) sponsored Senate Resolution 138, endorsing the week and confirming it would be observed annually. George W. Bush specifically named the month, “National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month”.
National Prostate Health month increases public awareness for the importance of prostate health, educating the public about risk factors and symptoms, providing accessible health screenings and advocating for future research.
During the month, free screenings for prostate related diseases are offered at hospitals, healthcare clinics and work places. Many professional teams actively promote events relating to prostate cancer.
